When my friend (shout out to Amber) told me she wanted to grab some fried chicken for Sunday lunch at a local spot that had, as she described, the best fried chicken she had ever had, I was skeptical. Then, I quickly remembered that my buddy is from the south, so I decided to give it a try. The spot was Gus’s Fried Chicken. Touted as world famous…and the chicken may just live up to the hype.
I am an accommodations snob. There, I said it. I always try to book great accommodations at a reasonable rate. So when I learned that I was staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Temecula, courtesy of Visit Temecula Valley, for a wine-tasting excursion with my dad for Father’s Day, I was hopeful—yet admittedly, a bit nervous—about whether the property would meet my typically high expectations.
It far exceeded them.
For a drive down to Temecula for wine tasting with my dad, I wanted something fancy for the weekend. This whole trip came up as a last minute change of plans. For Father’s Day, I had planned to go wine tasting with my dad in Santa Barbara. Then, Santa Barbara caught on fire. So frantically, on the day of his arrival, I started looking into other options so as to salvage the wine weekend. After some quick searching, I came up with and decided on Temecula for our wine tasting weekend.
And I am so glad I did.
Barbequed meat and more on a Saturday afternoon. What more could a girl ask for? That’s right, Saturday was the West Coast BBQ Classic at the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Set with the ship and the Long Beach shoreline and the bay in the background this event was an afternoon of relaxation, good music, family fun, and of course good food. It was a foodie’s dream!
I ate three helpings of the kale salad.
I don’t think you are understanding what I’m saying. I ate three helpings of kale salad. It was absolutely fantastic… And I don’t even like kale. That is the beauty of Yellow Tomato Catering. They made me like kale.
Yellow Tomato Catering is a family-owned, mobile catering and foodie business based in Pasadena. They specialize in clean yet deliciously unique meals and Yellow Tomato was just featured in LA Travel Magazine. I had the amazing opportunity to sit down to a chef’s tasting with Alexandria Dotson, owner of Yellow Tomato, and I was not disappointed.
We all know life can get hectic at times. Between work, family, school, household obligations and finances, its easy to feel like everyday functioning is stressful business.
One of my favorite remedies is an excellent spa treatment. What could be more relaxing than a luxurious spa day where someone else pampers you from head to toe? And where better to indulge than in SoCal, the perfect relaxation destination? And while there are a number of larger, well-known Southern California spas, there are also a number of unique one-off locations that offer can a memorable experience and much-needed perks.

When I attended Style Los Angeles Fashion Week, I went for the fashion and to see the new lines of some designers I knew and some I didn’t. What I got from some of the shows was an international journey in fashion.

We were in a panic.
The event date came out two and a half weeks before the dinner. Our registration was a mere week before the dinner. And we got in. And promptly panicked.
Diner en Blanc, an annual tradition that started in Paris, is shrouded in mystery. Thousands gather for a giant pop-up picnic at a secret location not disclosed until you are on the bus to the event.
Needless to say, I was intrigued. And needless to say, we were strapped for time. We had to rent tables, find pullies (because the table and chairs were heavy), get our all-white outfits together, figure out accessories, and figure out the food. Not to mention the rest of life that continued occurring with no regard for our time crunch. My friend Tyra (yep, two Tyras) and I scrambled to get our lives together in time. And by the day of the event, we were both kind of over it. All of this trouble for a dinner… Was it really worth it? We figured no, but we would go along for the ride.
We were totally wrong.
